- What is the RemoteAccess Pub? It is a real-time multi-user teleconferencing
- module. Using RAP you can chat with other users just like you were talking to
- them in real life. There are a variety of special features to help you express
- yourself, which are described below.
-
- Actions: you can use these special verbs to do fun things. For example,
- and assuming your System Operator hasn't changed these, and that
- your name is Bill:
-
- (you type) DRINK
-
- Everyone will see:
-
- Bill is chugging back another!
-
- (you type) KICK FRED
-
- Everyone will see:
-
- Bill just kicked Fred!
-
- Fred will see:
-
- Bill just kicked you!
-
- Please note that some actions must be used by themselves, others must be
- used "at" another user, and others may be used either way. In the above
- example, we assume that the user's name is FRED. A partial match is all
- it takes: KICK FR will work just fine. Of course, if FREDERICK is also
- signed on, RAP will match only the first occurence. Finally, the name
- ALL is a wildcard and automatically refers to "everyone" in the Pub.
-
- Secret Actions: appending "/S" or "SECRETLY" to an action command will
- cause the action to be shown only to the intended recipient! For example,
- under the same conditions as above:
-
- (you type) KICK FRED /S
-
- You will see:
-
- Violent, aren't we?...and just to Fred!
-
- Fred will see:
-
- Bill just kicked you!...secretly!
-
- And nobody else will see anything!
-
- TalkTypes: you can use these special verbs in two fun ways. If you use
- them BY THEMSELVES, they function similarly to ACTIONS (unless disabled
- by your sysop). However, TalkTypes were designed to, quite logically,
- modify the way in which you appear to speak to everyone else. Here's an
- example:
-
- (you type) cry boo hoo!
-
- Everyone will see:
-
- From Bill, crying: boo hoo!
-
- General Actions: these are special commands that let you invent your own
- actions "on the spot". There are two types: Normal and Possessive. Both
- of them work in the same way, but they are each used in different
- circumstances.
-
- General Actions are really just a special kind of TalkType that allow you
- to send a message that looks just like an action. Here's an example of a
- Normal General Action:
-
- (you type) ga is enjoying some pizza!
-
- Everyone will see:
-
- Bill is enjoying some pizza!
-
- Possessive General Actions work similarly:
-
- (you type) ga's tape machine just chewed up his favourite tape!
-
- Everyone will see:
-
- Bill's tape machine just chewed up his favourite tape!
-
- General Actions aren't as flexible as Personal Actions, but they do allow
- you to "act out" just about anything.
-
- If you type anything else, your text will be "broadcast" to everyone
- currently in the Pub.
